On Thursday 9 April a team of around 15 directors, managers and staff from the firm spent the day at Sherwood House in Linby, tidying up the home’s garden, planting some new plants and re-painting a summerhouse. HSKS Greenhalgh also donated a number of plants to the home as part of the project.
The idea for the project came from HSKS Greenhalgh Manager Julie Burton, who says that the firm has been looking to undertake a community based project like this for a while. Explains Julie, “Rather than simply raise money for a good cause, we wanted to find a practical project, where we could make a real difference. As HSKS Greenhalgh are specialist advisors to the nursing and care homes sector, Sherwood House seemed an obvious choice. As well as the benefits it will bring to the home, it was a great team building exercise for my colleagues and we really enjoyed”.
Operated by national charity Friends of the Elderley, Sherwood House is a 19 bedroom residential care home, set in extensive grounds. As Andrea Downs, Manager at the home says, the garden plays an important role in the lives of the people who live there. Explains Andrea, “Our residents get a lot of pleasure from the garden. From providing space for a stroll, or a quiet spot for a cup of tea and chat, it is central to their well being. Keeping it tidy and well planted is a big task, so we were delighted when HSKS Greenhalgh kindly offered to give up some of their time to help us get it ready for the summer”. Tools for the project were supplied by B & Q and Brookfields Garden Centre provided the plants.
