Sarah Matthews FCCA

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2024, we’ve taken over Sarah’s profile to find out what she enjoys most about working in the accounting industry and to find out who inspires her the most.

I’ve been a Business Services Manager at HSKSG for just under 12 years. I live with my partner Matt and our little boy named William, who’s 7.

The best thing about working in accountancy is the variety that my job gives me – talking to clients in many different industries, helping to understand their businesses and provide advice that I know will benefit them.

I like to get to know my clients, so that it creates a relationship that allows them to pick up the phone or drop me an email with anything they are considering doing so we can discuss any pros and cons that might arise.

I have come across barriers in my career, specifically for being a woman. My advice to anyone that goes through this – while this might knock you at first, get up, carry on and remain professional at all times. Chances are, this will help you play the long game and maintain your dignity.

I have worked for female bosses for the last 17 years of my career which has provided me with the inspiration that makes me believe that one day I can do it too!

All of these women managed to juggle a career as well as family life, which I’m utterly in awe of.

My sister is also a huge inspiration to me,  She’s taken on the biggest challenge of her career, she currently runs 3 call-centres in South Africa, and has well and truly excelled in it.
