International Women’s Day 2024

To celebrate International Women’s Day 2024, we asked a couple of the fabulous women in our team to tell us about any challenges they’ve faced working in a predominantly male profession and what advice they have for women who are thinking of working in accountancy.

Charlotte Goodwin accountant UttoxeterI’m Charlotte Rigby and I’m the Assistant Manager at HSKSG’s Uttoxeter office.

The best thing about working in accountancy is working with our clients.  Business owners are so passionate about their jobs, and I love meeting them to talk about it and helping them however we can.

Whilst I don’t think I’ve ever faced any specific barriers in my career, I can definitely think of occasions where people have seen a young blonde made-up woman, rather than a woman who knows what she’s talking about!

My advice to women who are considering a career in accountancy is to go for it!  Don’t let anything or anyone hold you back, male or female. Accountancy is an ever-evolving career and as long as you stay up to date and on the ball, there is no reason why you can’t do what you want to do.

The woman who most inspires me is Coco Chanel – ‘A girl should be two things: who and what she wants’.
